Voted one of New York’s best gardens again and again (including by Curbed in 2016), the Heather Garden is a diverse four-season garden and features one of the largest heath and heather collections in the country. The garden’s three acres are home to trees, shrubs, and perennials, including dozens of varieties of heaths and heathers, all providing color, texture, and interest in every season. Changing selections of colorful annuals add to the garden’s romantic exuberance. The botanical diversity attracts birds, butterflies, and other beneficial wildlife and insects. The garden is situated on slopes more than 200 feet above the Hudson River and offers stunning views as well. Each April, we shear the heathers, a task that encourages dense horizontal growth and helps ensure the garden’s splendor. Read more about the Heather Garden and see bloom lists here.
