Grand Staircase

The bluestone Grand Staircase original to Fort Tryon Park is located just to the north of Anne Loftus Playground. This steep staircase consists of 100+ steps and connects the Broadway side of Fort Tryon Park with The Met Cloisters. The staircase is currently (2017) undergoing a $1.3M capital reconstruction, funded by City Comptroller Scott Stringer, at the request of Fort Tryon Park Trust donor David Rockefeller, son of John D. Rockefeller who created the park. When finished, the staircase will be have level stairs and landings as well as a railing.
