Fort Tryon Park offers free fitness programs for all levels of skill. In addition to year-round Fitness Walks, Fort Tryon Park Trust's summer fitness programs include Tai Chi, Sunset Yoga, and Parents & Me Yoga—all free! Join one or more of these programs for a healthy and fun way to enjoy this landmarked park. You can also play on the newly restored ping pong tables, volleyball courts, or use one of its 40 staircases for your workout. Additionally, the Trust offers periodic dance workshops and participates in the annual Hike the Heights event.
All programs are weather permitting; rain and temperatures below 20 F cancel. Please check the Upcoming Events calendar for program updates and changes.
How Many Things Can You Do on a Park Bench?
Probably you can do a lot more than you think! Fort Tryon Park’s Nancy Bruning has been leading outdoor fitness classes in the park since 2004. That’s plenty of time to create and fine tune exercises that stretch and tone your body... using no exercise equipment other than a park bench! These 101 exercises not only help you meet current healthy exercise recommendations–they add spice and challenge to your walks in the park. Curious? Year–Round Fitness Programs
Fitness Walking Program
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 7:30 a.m.–8:30 a.m.
Saturdays, 8:30 a.m.–9:30 a.m.
Description: Join us for one hour of walking, stretching, strengthening, and body toning using only the park, our own bodies, and gravity. All levels welcome; we modify to meet your level of ability. These walks are year–round (Note: Fitness Walking does not meet if it is raining or if the actual temperature or wind chill is below 20 degrees F.).
Directions: Meet at the entrance to the Heather Garden on Margaret Corbin Circle where Cabrini Boulevard and Fort Washington Avenue converge.

Summer Parent and Me Yoga
Saturdays 9 a.m.–9:45 a.m., June 4 through August 27
Location: Abby’s Lawn
Join us for free yoga for children and their parents/caregivers with Christina Shablak, a certified children's instructor. All aged children are welcome with a parent or caregiver. Meet on Abby's Lawn in Fort Tryon Park, just north of the David Rockefeller Linden Terrace. Please arrive early, and bring a towel or yoga mat. Note that the ground is sloped and there are uneven spots. Rain or wet ground cancels.*Parent and Me Yoga will not be held on July 4th.
Sunrise Tai Chi
Wednesdays 6:30 a.m.–7:30 a.m., June 1 through August 31
Location: Linden Terrace
Start your day out right; come enjoy Sunrise Tai Chi classes with certified Tai Chi Instructor Robert Martinez, on the beautiful David Rockefeller Linden Terrace. These classes are suitable for all levels. Wear comfy clothing and bring water.
Wednesdays 6:45 p.m.–8:00 p.m, June 1 through August 31
Location: Abby’s Lawn
Practice yoga with a variety of certified local yoga instructors while overlooking the beautiful Hudson River and basking in the glow of the setting sun. Arrive early, and bring a towel or yoga mat and water. Please note: Abby's Lawn is slightly sloped and there are some uneven spots. Rain or wet ground cancels.
